Sophie Nys (Brussels / Zürich)
invited Elena Filipovic, Kunsthalle Basel, Leila Peacock, (Zürich), Raphaël
Pirenne, (SIC), Brussels, and Elfi Turpin, CRAC Alsace,
to palaver about Marcel Duchamp,
geopolitical tensions, mating slugs, and books.
Not a shoe
In the realm of the cold war, the
Water Supply Department of Zürich
initiated a competition for artists to develop a fountain that would serve as
an overall and autonomous water circuit. Half a century later, the city of Zürich
is scattered with almost 90 identical fountains designed by Alfred Aebersold.
Seduced by its sculptural qualities
and art historical references, Sophie Nys documented all fountains for an artist
book, which will include words by Leila Peacock and will be published with
(SIC) in early summer 2017.
